When the curtain of anxiety over the advent of a fresh century devoid of characteristics and harsh reminiscences of a closing 20th century was drawn the general feelings were replete with relief and high optimism. From his book "Wars and Genocides of the 20th Century" by Piero Scaruffi, we learn that the 20th century had reclaimed 160 million lives in wars, natural and man-made disasters - a chronology of tragical events unsurpassed by any epoch in human history. In fact historians have equated the century with the most violent legacy ever bestowed upon mankind by space and time. Thus it is no wonder that traffics across bridges to the 21st century were jammed with optimism.
But wearied optimists soon chagrined at unfolding events which welcomed them to the 21st century.
